Install

Comet is a desktop browser distributed as a native installer. There is no npm package or CLI install command. Download the installer from the official download page.

Linux is not officially supported as of the 2025 launch.

macOS

1. Open any browser and go to comet.perplexity.ai.
2. Click Download for Mac -- a .dmg installer (~200 MB) will download.
3. Double-click the .dmg file in your Downloads folder to mount it.
4. Drag the Comet app icon into your Applications folder.
5. Eject the disk image and optionally delete the .dmg file.
6. Open Applications > Comet. On first run, confirm the macOS security prompt (System Settings > Privacy and Security > Open Anyway if needed).
7. Sign in with your Perplexity account (Google, email, or guest mode).
8. Optionally import bookmarks, passwords, history, and extensions from your previous browser via Profile > Import browser data.

Windows

1. Open any browser and go to comet.perplexity.ai.
2. Click Download for Windows -- a .exe installer (~200 MB) will download.
3. Run the downloaded .exe. If Windows shows a UAC prompt, click Yes to allow the installer.
4. Follow the on-screen setup wizard until it completes.
5. Launch Comet from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
6. Sign in with your Perplexity account.
7. Optionally import browser data via Profile > Import browser data.

Enabling agentic features

After signing in:

1. Open the Comet Assistant side panel (lightning bolt icon or keyboard shortcut).
2. To enable email and calendar workflows, go to Settings > Connected Accounts and grant Gmail and/or Google Calendar access. This is opt-in; Comet does not access these services without explicit authorization.

Full agentic task execution requires a Pro or Max Perplexity subscription.

Troubleshooting

• If installation fails, verify your OS meets the minimum version requirement.
• On macOS, if the app is blocked by Gatekeeper, go to System Settings > Privacy and Security and click Open Anyway.
• Temporarily disabling third-party antivirus or firewall software can help if the installer is flagged incorrectly.
